Professor Carola Vinuesa awarded prestigious $2.3M NHMRC Investigator grant from Australian government
Professor Carola Vinuesa from the ANU John Curtin School of Medical Research has been awarded a prestigious Investigator Grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).
Professor Vinuesa plans to use the $2.3 million in funding to translate recent molecular and genetic discoveries into treatments for sufferers of debilitating autoimmune diseases.
“This grant recognises the outstanding members of my research team, and I thank them for their dedication to this work,” says Professor Vinuesa.
“In a climate in which basic science research is increasingly underfunded with the expectation that research projects should have more immediate clinical impact, I am incredibly grateful for this grant as it will allows us to understand the fundamental mechanisms of disease, which will ultimately lead to better therapies.”
Director of the ANU John Curtin School of Medical Research, Professor Graham Mann says the new funding recognises the high calibre of translational biomedical research at ANU.
“Carola and her team have been very successful in bringing basic science to the clinic, and we all congratulate them for their very well deserved success,” says Professor Mann.
